Lydia Kerr
Lydia first traveled to Haiti on a two-week trip by herself in January 2014 after a study abroad trip was cancelled. Having no idea what she would do while she was there, what language was spoken, or any other details, she could not have even begun to prepare herself for the life changing experience she would have while in Haiti. After seeing the joy of the Haitian people, she came back to the states determined to maintain relationships she had built during her trip and begun taking Creole classes at Samford University. She took the classes for three years with the founder of HAAA as her teacher and now considers herself a conversational Creole speaker which has enabled her to continue to serve again and again.
Since 2014, Lydia has travelled to Haiti over ten times, teaching English, Sanitation and Health Classes, working on construction projects, and leading teams of high school students also interested in serving the country of Haiti.
She now works full-time as graphic designer for her company, Telltale Creative, but loves that her flexible schedule allows her to return to Haiti again and again,
